Who says camping is out of the question? For those campers out there that simply love the outdoors and the bonding it brings, there are ways you can have fun outdoors, well in your backyard anyway.
We love it when families come together to enjoy a fun experience.
Here are a few of fun ideas you can have in your backyard.
- Camping under the stars
You can still see the stars from your home so make a night of it. Get your kids together and plan to go camping (in the backyard). Prepare for it as if you are going on a camping trip. The preparation can be the first part of the experience. Get your camping tent, sleeping bag and pack a bag of goodies and a mini braai stand. Camping equipment suppliers will have everything you need under one roof. In your backyard on a patch of grass, pitch your tent with the help of your kids. Set up the braai stand and make a camp fire. Everyone can get seated around the camp fire. Get some sticks and pop some marshmallows at the end of it for each person to braai over the camp fire. Be careful not to burn the marshmallows; you want it to be soft and mushy. Then start telling tales while you enjoy the marshmallow roast at the camp fire. After the tales, try to identify the stars. Then you can each snuggle into your own sleeping bag in the camping tent and enjoy a night of camping in your backyard.
- Party in the yard
Invent your own special occasion if there are no birthdays coming up soon and get ready for a party. Set up a gazebo in the backyard and decorate it. It’s more fun when you have a theme. The kids will love themes like superheroes or Disney. Then get the snacks and music ready. You can have a singing dance party where each of you sings along to the songs. Then you can all dance to the songs and have a cool fun night.
- Paint gallery in the backyard
This is a fun way to keep the kids busy and allow them to showcase their art. Give each child and yourself (parents should participate too) a sheet of cardboard and a set of paint. Each person can paint part of a story. The idea is that you will come up with a fun story and each person will paint one part of the story. For example, once upon a time there was a little boy who went exploring in a forest. He climbed trees and crossed rivers. He found many animals along his journey. You can make up the story as you wish then each person paints a part of the story, like one person can paint the trees in the forest, the other can paint the boy crossing the river and the others can paint different animals. Once you have all completed your paintings, display it in order of the story’s plot then tell the story.
